The Checketts's have been around Worcestershire
a lot longer than 100 years. Their recorded history
dates back as far as the end of the 16th century
to a William Checketts of Bishampton.
The name Checketts has become synonymous with
standards of quality and hygiene which were set
by the original founder of the business, Thomas
G Checketts, way back in 1902 - the same standards
that have won the company local, national, and
international accolades in more recent years.
When Thomas G Checketts was just 21, he had to
borrow money to open his first shop in Wyre Piddle
but the business soon flourished and he moved
to Ombersley Road, Worcester in 1911 and then
to the present premises at Ombersley in 1925,
these doubling as the family home until extension
of both the firm and the family meant that it
has. now been taken over entirely by the business.
Today it is owned jointly by two grandchildren
of the founder, Tony and Phil. They took over
from their father Thomas Henry (known to all as
Harry). David Checketts, Phil's son, is Shop Manager
and makes the fourth generation of Checketts in
the business. Phil's wife, Pam, runs the busy
office taking over from his mother, Evelyn, as
Company Secretary.
The family agree that much of the total success
of the business lies with a loyal staff, most
of whom have been with the firm for many years.
We are members of the elite Guild of Q Butchers.
